I had the pleasure of spending this weekend with with some of my very best friends, two of whom, Laura and Andy, have just taken on their own farm in the heart of the South Downs in Sussex. Laura and I met at university. She was studying Graphic Design and I Law. 10 years on, she's a fully fledged farmer and I'm a photographer! It's fair to say things have changed a bit over the years!
On Saturday, Laura and Andy showed us around their farm yard, talked us through their average day and the plans and ideas they have for the future. The 6 of us and our 5 dogs then went for a massive walk through the vast fields and woodland which make up Cockinghill Farm (their farm!). It is stunningly beautiful, the Downs never disappoint , even in the grey English weather it was gorgeous.
I have heard a lot about the farm since they have taken it over, but seeing it in the flesh, so to speak, gave me even more respect for these wonderful humans. Their work ethic, team work, vision, ethos, and relationship dynamic is truly inspiring. They have taken on a huge challenge and I just know they will make it a massive, massive success.
Laura, being the creative genius that she is, has started a blog about their journey and hers in particular - coming from a non farming background to being a full time farmer! So we took the opportunity this weekend to do a mini photoshoot and I had to share some of my favourites on here! To read more about her journey and their wonderful farm read her blog for yourself www.girlaboutthefarm.co.uk but, I'm warning you, you will want to throw in the office job and become a full time farmer!
